Bream Launches Its Private Community Platform and Mobile App Where Women 50+ Build Meaningful Friendships

Bream, a new private community platform designed for active, engaged women 50+, today announced the public launch and iOS mobile app of its community with virtual and local in-person experiences available for the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston and Denver. Bream addresses a growing need, as research links strong social connections to longevity and well-being, yet women 50+ remain largely overlooked by mainstream technology and community platforms.

Bream is supported by investors, including AARP, Conscious Venture Partners, and Dr. Tarul Kode. Conscious Venture Partners invested after Bream’s participation in their Conscious Venture Labs accelerator program, which supports mission-driven companies addressing systemic social challenges. Bream plans to raise exclusively from social impact funds and angel investors.

Bream is a private community platform where women 50+ find new friends, affinity groups, and local and virtual experiences. The platform helps members build real connections and a stronger sense of belonging through curated small groups, events, weekly prompts and trust-based interactions.

“Women don’t stop wanting friendship, adventure and growth at 50,” said Ryan Reid, CEO and founder of Bream. “If anything, this phase of life brings more curiosity, authenticity and freedom. But today, women are stitching together scattered tools that were never designed to help relationships deepen. What’s missing is something intentional that makes connection easier, more joyful and more woven into everyday life.”

Women 50+ often experience multiple simultaneous life changes, including retirement or career shifts, divorce or loss of a partner, a move, caregiving or becoming empty nesters. While they remain socially motivated and active, the tools available to help them connect are fragmented across text threads, Facebook groups, Slack channels, one-off events and platforms built for younger audiences.

“Research tells us that women navigating major life transitions — retirement, loss of a partner, an empty nest — are among the most at risk for loneliness. AARP’s most recent data shows 4 in 10 adults 50+ report feeling lonely, with shrinking social circles as the key driver,” said Reid. “Bream exists because we believe that’s not inevitable. With the right community, this life chapter can be the richest one yet.”

Emily Bell, co-founder and chief product officer (CPO), said the company approached friendship with thoughtful design. “A recent Oregon State University study found that people who use social media most frequently are more than twice as likely to feel lonely — and that tracks with what we hear from our members. Most social platforms treat connection as incidental. Bream is built differently. We are building a system that personalizes introductions over time so women can focus less on organizing and more on building the kind of relationships that actually last.”

Bream combines curated small groups and virtual and local events with an AI-powered proprietary platform designed to connect women based on shared interests, life stage, location and participation patterns. As members engage, the platform refines recommendations so introductions feel intentional rather than random.

Currently, the platform is available nationwide, with in-person events in the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, and Denver. Users access Bream via desktop and the iOS mobile app now. Bream membership is priced at $29 per month, or $19.99 per month when billed annually. It starts with a 1-month free trial. Members will never be served ads and Bream will never sell member data. Future plans include expanding in-person events to additional cities as membership increases and members can track how close their city is to in-person events inside the app.

Bream recognizes two partners at launch time: Hugh & Grace, a hormone health company, and Anh Phoong, a San Francisco Bay Area attorney and community advocate. Hugh & Grace is a partner inside Bream’s rewards wallet, so members can access discounts and rewards featuring companies they know, love and request. To help support awareness of the launch, Anh Phoong donated 10 of her billboard locations across San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Palo Alto, San Jose and Vallejo to Bream.
